statement:I am interested in evidence of life that has been overlooked. By attributing significance to such objects, I seek to discover and explore that which is lost to the periphery; in doing so, questions are both raised and answered through the investigation of detail. My work is rooted in observation and the curiosity that arises there from. The discipline of drawing inherently lends itself to such investigations. John Berger described drawing as an “act of discovery”; I adhere to this philosophy by drawing out objects. The temporality of object-hood, functions as a theme in my work. I do not try to breathe life back into the things I draw, but rather to isolate and document them. The objects transform the empty space of the picture plane and are themselves transformed outside of their original context.
